The Code Enforcement Department often receives complaints regarding temporary signage placed on the City right-of-ways (ROW). Although exact ROW measurements are established for each road, the ROW can be identified as the area between the road and the furthest public utility (utility pole or water meter) away from the road. This ROW area is where signs are prohibited per the Land Development Code 5.07.05, which also includes center medians and shoulders of roadways. This code applies to all signs, including but not limited to realtor signage, garage sales, services offered, contractor for hire, rentals, businesses, campaign signs, etc.  This also includes flags, inflatable signs, and banners.

Also, signs indicating or advertising for rent, sale, or lease may only be placed on the property that is actually for rent, sale, or lease. Keeping signage on private property will prevent the sign from being removed and a citation issued.  This rule can be found in the Land Development Code 5.07.03 (J)

Per Ordinance Chapter 16 Sec 16-4, signs cannot be attached to any tree or utility pole on a public right-of-way.

Per the Land Development Code 5.07.10 (c), a sign collected by Code Enforcement must be stored for up to 30 days and available for owner retrieval. Collected signs are stored inside the dumpster enclosure area (NOT in the dumpster itself) near the City Hall building at 116 S. Arnold Rd. The owner may contact our office to retrieve their sign during that 30-day timeframe. Also, a citation may be issued per sign violation.
