Design was completed by Panhandle Engineering, Inc. in 2017 under the master services agreement for roadways, sidewalks, and trails for professional engineering services. The City was awarded a Florida Shared-Use Non-Motorized Trail Agreement (SUN-TRAIL) grant in the amount of $904,716.00 from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) November 2018. Delays in wetland permitting through a recorded conservation easement and a change in regulatory agency review pushed this project back a couple of years. City Council approved the construction agreement for the Multiuse Trail East - Gayle's Trail Project with C.W. Roberts Contracting, Inc. in the amount not to exceed $2,836,760.39 in February of 2023 and construction has begun.

This project consists of construction of a new 12’ wide asphalt multiuse trail from east of the Colony Club Subdivision to the Breakfast Point Subdivision. The trail includes asphalt, lime-rock base, sod, drainage, concrete retaining wall, minor concrete work, wood boardwalk, fencing and signage.
